Todo es un processo! 2

Atlantic Highlands, NJ

It was a great trip from Atlantic City to the Atlantic Highlands. We had estimated approximately 16 hrs, but with good seas and a little luck, we made it in 14!

Coming around the buoy from the Atlantic into Hudson Bay always poses a bit of a challenge, but the commercial traffic was light today and we didn’t have much to deal with in terms of wakes, etc. so we were able to easily make our way into Sandyhook Bay and then south to the Atlantic Highlands breakwater light.

Being that it was Fathers Day weekend, we had reserved a mooring for 2 nights with the Atlantic Highlands Yacht Club – I don’t like leaving Rocinante at anchor for more than a few hours for the first couple of days until I’m confident our anchor is well set.

We had a great night at anchor; well protected from the swells by the breakwater and gorgeous views all around!

Fathers Day

We got up bright and early to get ready… my brother was driving down to pick us up so we could spend Fathers Day at his place and I was really looking forward to it! We got lucky with the timing/traffic & It was a quick trip north.

We got to see my brother, Mom, Sister-in-law, Nephews a few old friends and our extended family – The Baginski’s! Add to that great BBQ, cigars & port and you have the makings of an awesome day!

Well, it only got better from there, my brother was driving back down to Rocinante and spending the next day with us… woohoo!

It was an interesting experience for him – he got to hear first hand all the noises we’ve gotten accustomed to; water slapping the hull, wind generator humming in the background, etc. Then, he helped me get the dink ready to go, mount the outboard, so on and so forth… we swam off the back of the boat, took the dink to the beach, hit the supermarket, etc.

All in all we had a great time and I walked away with a new quote – it was my brother’s overall impression of the Sailing Life: “todo es un processo!” – Everything is a process!

He’s right, of,course, everything on a sailing vessel takes thought & deliberate action right down to simply walking from one place to another… but the rewards, at least for us, are well worth it!

Later in the week, Ada (Maria) & I hiked a small portion of the Henry Hudson Trail back to the same little beach we hd visited with my brother and went a bit beyond into town – nice little hike!

Till next time,
