Engineer, housewife, woodworker, gardeners, computer geek, sailors?
We’ve been married for just over 31 years and have experienced the inevitable ups and downs that accompany such a journey. Always looking for a new challenge, a few years ago, I got the crazy idea to build a boat. Noooo, not something reasonable like a skiff or a pram… Nope, I was going to build myself a 40 ft. sailboat!
As always, my lovely wife backed me all the way… right up to the point that I was going to start. As I was about to place my first lumber order, she said, “why don’t we buy a boat first, to see if we actually enjoy sailing before you build?”; darn, she knows I can’t fight logic!
Well, we looked around and 3 months later we purchased our first boat; she was a Catalina 30 TR named “Euphoria”! We picked her up in Connecticut and sailed her to her new home in Haverstraw, NY. Quite frankly, we love sailing and the plan is to leave all of this behind and travel the world aboard Rocinante… OK, so we’ll start with some coastal cruising and take it from there.
We’ve completed a number of “cruises”, each one a bit lengthier than the next, we’ve gotten a larger boat (Hanse 400e) and have completed our longest coastal cruise from Saquatucket Harbor (Harwich Port, MA) to Key West, Fl… spending a bit over 10 months aboard Rocinante!
It’s now 2010… for various reasons, we’ve spent the last couple of years regrouping, but we’re now getting ready to head out again!
Nothing can stop us now
